South Node Past Life Astrology, in Plain English
What your South Node says about past-life patterns, soul contracts and comfort zones, in plain English, plus how a Past Life reading works.
By Sofia Delgado-Gulliver · Founder of Kunwento

"What's your South Node?" is one of those questions that sounds a bit mysterious until someone explains it properly. So let's do that, over a cuppa, without the jargon.
I'm Sofia, and I read charts online for clients across the UK and back home in the Philippines. The Past Life reading is one of the ones I'm asked about most, and it all starts with a little point in your chart called the South Node.
What are the lunar nodes?
Your chart has two points called the lunar nodes: the North Node and the South Node. They're not planets. They're the two spots where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's apparent path through the sky, which is also why eclipses happen near them.
The nodes always sit exactly opposite each other. They move backwards through the zodiac and take roughly 18 and a half years to go all the way round, spending about a year and a half in each sign. So people born around the same time often share a nodal sign, and the house it falls in is what makes it personal.
In astrology, the two nodes are read as a pair:
- The South Node is linked to the past: what feels familiar, the habits and comfort zones you fall back on.
- The North Node is linked to direction: the less comfortable stuff that tends to help you grow.

Why the South Node is linked to past lives
This is where it gets interesting. In past life astrology, the South Node is read as the story you arrived with: the karmic themes you carry and what your soul already knows by heart. It's often described as a set of gifts and a groove you can get stuck in.
I find that second part the most useful. The South Node isn't "bad". It's just very, very familiar. It's the role you slip into without thinking, the response you give before you've decided anything. Noticing it is half the work.
Some plain-English examples of how it can show up:
- A South Node in an independent sign might lean towards doing everything alone, even when help is right there.
- A South Node in a people-focused sign might be brilliant at keeping the peace, and less used to saying what they want.
- A South Node in a home-focused house might find it easy to put family first and harder to step into a public role.
These are themes for reflection, not labels. Your whole chart matters, and so does your actual life.
Soul contracts and the South Node
My astrological Past Life reading includes your soul contracts. When I say soul contracts, I mean the lessons and agreements your soul is thought to have made before this life, and what they say about your purpose and path, whether that's forgiveness, growth or love.
In the reading we look at the karmic themes around your South Node, the story of your most recent past life, and what all of that might mean for the patterns in your life now.
If you'd rather explore past lives through the Akashic Records than through your chart, there's an Akashic Past Life Reading too, and it also includes soul contracts. Both are on the Akashic Records page.
South Node or Draconic chart: what's the difference?
People often mix these up, so here's the short version:
- Past Life uses your South Node. It looks back at karmic themes and familiar patterns, and includes your soul contracts.
- Destiny Map uses your Draconic chart, a version of your chart re-set around the North Node. It looks at your soul purpose and gives you a step-by-step guide to working towards it.
One looks at where you've come from, the other at where you're heading. Neither predicts what will happen. Both are for reflection.
What happens in a Past Life reading
Readings are online, so you can join from anywhere in the UK, the Philippines or elsewhere. When you book, please send your date, time and place of birth. Your birth time sets your houses, which matter a lot for the South Node.
You can keep your camera off and record the session to go back to later. We'll go through your South Node by sign and house, the karmic themes around it, your soul contracts and the story of your most recent past life, then talk about what it all might mean for you now.

FAQs
Do I need my birth time? It helps, because it sets your houses, but it isn't essential. You don't need an exact birth time to have a reading. Without one, some chart details, like your Rising sign and houses, are less precise, but there's still plenty we can look at. If you're unsure, email me at Weaver@kunwento.com before booking and we'll work out what's best. In England and Wales the time usually isn't on birth certificates (except for twins and other multiple births), so it's worth asking family.
Will you tell me exactly who I was in a past life? We look at the story of your most recent past life as your chart shows it, but the focus is always what it means for your patterns now.
Is the South Node bad? No. It's just familiar. It holds gifts as well as habits.
Can I book from the Philippines? Yes. All astrology readings are online, and prices are in GBP.
Will my chart tell me what's going to happen? No. It's a framework for reflection and self-understanding, not a forecast.
