Jupiter Return: Abundance, Growth and Your 12-Year Cycle
What a Jupiter return is, when it happens, what it can (and can't) mean for abundance and growth, and how an Abundance reading works.
By Sofia Delgado-Gulliver · Founder of Kunwento

If someone's told you "ooh, it's your Jupiter return, it's going to be a lucky year," I'd love to gently unpack that for you. A Jupiter return is a genuinely interesting moment in your chart, but it isn't a lottery ticket. Here's what it actually is, in plain English.
I'm Sofia, and I read charts online for clients across the UK and in the Philippines. My Abundance reading is built around the Jupiter return, so this is one of my favourite cycles to talk about.
What is a Jupiter return?
A planetary return is when a planet comes back to the exact spot it was in when you were born. Jupiter takes just under twelve years to travel all the way round the zodiac, so your Jupiter return comes round at roughly:
- 12
- 24
- 36
- 47 to 48
- 59 to 60
- 71
- 83
Because Jupiter appears to move backwards (retrograde) for part of each year, it can cross its birth spot two or three times over several months. That's why astrologers tend to talk about a return season rather than a single day.

What Jupiter is about
In astrology, Jupiter is linked to expansion: opportunity, learning, travel, generosity, confidence and a wider sense of what's possible. Where it sits in your chart (its sign and house) shows the area of life where that growth tends to show up for you.
So a Jupiter return is a bit like a twelve-year check-in. One cycle closes and the next begins. It's a natural moment to ask: what do I want to grow in this next chapter?
Abundance, honestly
Here's the bit I always say out loud. A Jupiter return doesn't guarantee money, a new job or anything else. Jupiter is often described as expanding what's already there, which can be lovely, and can also mean more of what's not working: overcommitting, overspending, saying yes to everything.
When I talk about abundance, I don't just mean money. I mean your sense of abundance: opportunity, career, growth, and the blocks that might be holding you back. A reading helps you reflect on all of that, so you can choose where to put your energy. The choosing is yours.
Looking back to look forward
One of the most useful things you can do with a Jupiter return is look back at your last one. What was happening around age 12, 24 or 36? What opened up? What did you start, or let go of?
You don't need to remember everything. Even a few loose memories can show you the themes your Jupiter likes to work with, and that gives you a much better feel for the chapter you're stepping into now.
A few questions to journal on:
- Where in my life do I feel ready to grow?
- What am I saying yes to out of habit rather than choice?
- What would "enough" look like for me this time round?
- Who could I learn from in this next chapter?
What happens in an Abundance (Jupiter Return) reading
The reading looks at your Jupiter return, the twelve-year cycle, to help you reflect on opportunity, career and growth in the chapter you're starting. We look at your natal Jupiter by sign and house, when your return falls, and what themes it brings up for you.
Readings are online, by video call, and last 60 minutes. When you book, please send your date, time and place of birth. You can keep your camera off and record the session to go back to later.
Jupiter return or Venus return?
They're often mentioned together, so quickly:
- Jupiter return: comes round roughly every twelve years. Growth, opportunity, career and abundance.
- Venus return: Venus comes back to its birth spot roughly once a year. My Venus Return reading looks at your Venus placement and return to reflect on love, attraction, charisma and what you value.
If you're not sure where to start, the natal chart reading (Pathway) is the foundation the others build on. I wrote about it in Natal Chart Reading: What It Covers and What to Bring.

FAQs
What age is a Jupiter return? Roughly every twelve years: around 12, 24, 36, 47–48, 59–60, 71 and 83.
How long does a Jupiter return last? The exact contact passes quite quickly, but because of retrograde it can happen two or three times across several months, so most people think of it as a season.
Will my Jupiter return bring money? It's not a promise of money or any particular outcome. It's a moment to reflect on growth and choose what you want to expand.
Do I need my birth time? It helps, because it shows which house your Jupiter sits in, but it isn't essential. You don't need an exact birth time to have a reading. Without one, some chart details, like your Rising sign and houses, are less precise, but there's still plenty we can look at. If you're unsure, email me at Weaver@kunwento.com before booking and we'll work out what's best.
Can I book from the Philippines? Yes. All astrology readings are online, and prices are in GBP.
